there are several factors of getting Thyroid Cancer but mostly its not really known what causes it...
there is a rare Thyroid Cancer (medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) ) in which a person can inherit the gene.. Also
inherited medical conditions, such as Gardner's syndrome and familial polyposis.
since no one knows anything about your life style, your ethnicity and the generalization of where you lived as I live in the same area and went to Highlands and graduated in 69, my sister which is 60 had thyroid issues...
the following is what can add to the cause, based on biological and environmental conditions..
Age.
Being female.
Exposure to high levels of radiation, such as after a nuclear power accident.
A personal or family history of thyroid disease or thyroid cancer.
A family history of conditions such as MEN (multiple endocrine neoplasia) 2a, MEN 2b, or FMTC (familial medullary thyroid carcinoma).
Being Asian.
A history of radiation treatments to the head, neck, or chest during childhood.
think about going to the dentist and getting lots of x-rays, mammograms... or.
microwaving food and standing near the microwave..
the area I currently live in have had lots of Cancer patients, by Gibson Ranch.. the ones getting cancer are female.. the bad part, they drink lots of Chardonnay and it causes breast cancer among liver problems.. the chemical in it is called "Diacetyl" it gives Chardonnay its buttery taste and its the same chemical used in microwave popcorn and claimed to cause lung cancer.. its unknown if "Diacetyl" causes any other cancer, because its been a quiet issue and if it has, then companies would go bankrupt from massive lawsuits..
my neighbor/ex-girl friend and her friend, my other neighbor drank lots of Chardonnay and both developed breast cancer.. another 2 neighbors also female drank a large amount of Chardonnay and developed breast cancer. one died.. my ex-girlfriend is dying from liver cancer due to excessive consumption of wine.. she be lucky to live one more month and she was diagnosed less than a month ago.. she looks like she came from a Nazi Concentration Camp, no muscle, skin and bones.. cant walk, cant roll over in bed without assistance....
so it might have been what you and your friend did together, inherit by chance,biological or other factors.. as in bad soil where you and she lives(d).
